Songwriters Round July

July 23 @ 6:30 pm - July 26 @ 9:00 pm
$20.00
artist lineup for July Songwriters Round

The Homegrown Hideaway Songwriters Rounds gathers songwriters from surrounding communities and brings them together for an intimate concert with heartfelt storytelling.

Curated by Nolan Gibson, the goal is to gather a unique mix of artists and perspectives all under one roof, and provide a quiet listening experience for the audience and performers alike. Each round four songwriters will take turns performing an original song and providing insight into their writing process. Time should allow for four to six rounds, with a brief intermission in between.

Let’s meet our songwriters:

Mitch Szitas

Mitch Szitas is a Canadian-born Singer-songwriter and Multi-instrumentalist currently based in Southern Ontario. The intimate and thought-provoking nature of his songwriting is something that needs to be heard first hand. Having honed his skills providing the low-end as bass player throughout his 20’s, he has continued to expand his repertoire by returning to his roots and releasing music under his own name.

Mitch has a way with storytelling through song that is infectious as much as it is captivating. With a euphonious voice, catchy guitar lines, smooth harmonies and lyrics that will have you holding your chin, his unique styling to the folk genre will have you listening for years to come.
His debut EP entitled “Moniker” (2023) is a collection of songs from his past. A heart-felt tribute to the kid that he once was. These stories are honest, with lyrics that will make you think and feel as though you’re somewhere familiar and welcome.

Lydia Stephen

Lydia Stephen is a 24 year-old multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and songwriter based in Hamilton, Ontario.
Using soft, poetic lyricism, Lydia’s music and devastating vocals are often compared to the likes of Phoebe Bridgers or Lizzy McAlpine. Her songs wrestle with themes of anxiety, loss, and spirituality. Lydia embraces melancholy head-on through a bare bones approach to performance, creating a sense of quiet, gentle togetherness when experienced live.

Nolan Gibson

Blending a foundation in roots music with a curiosity for the undiscovered, songwriter Nolan Gibson creates music that is grounded in tradition, yet embraces the present times we live in. Nolan’s eclectic voice and guitar playing allow him to blur genre lines, and his lyrics will make you smile, laugh, cry, roll your eyes, and most importantly, feel.

In his 14-year career, Nolan has had the pleasure of opening for Canadian legend David Wilcox, and torch bearers of traditional folk Ian Bell and Lotus Wight. In addition to his own career as an artist, Nolan has played a support role in a number of other musical projects, and has earned a final ballot nomination for ‘Musician of the Year’ from CMAOntario.

If you’re lucky, he’ll even sing you a song about a spicy Octopus named Jeremy!
