What is glamping?

Glamping, or luxury camping, combines the outdoor camping experience with many of the comforts and amenities you would expect from a hotel. It is sometimes called boutique or comfortable camping and has become increasingly popular across Canada.

Homegrown Hideaway is open for glamping and special events from May until approximately mid-October. Exact opening and closing dates vary each year.

There are currently five fully functioning glamping tents.

The tents do not have electricity because each site is off-grid. Electrical outlets are available in the shared washroom building and kitchenette.

Check-in begins at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements must be made for arrivals after 7:00 p.m. Early check-in cannot normally be guaranteed unless an additional night is booked.

Check-out is by 10:00 a.m. Late check-out until 11:00 a.m. may be available for an additional fee and must be approved in advance. Availability can depend on whether an event is taking place that day.

Access to the property and amenities is normally limited to the duration of your stay. Additional access for things such as parking or using the trails may be permitted with advance approval, depending on other events taking place at the property.

There is a large outdoor bathroom facility with individual powder rooms, flush toilets and hot running water. These facilities are shared among guests.

Yes. There are two private hot-water shower rooms within the bathroom facility. Showers are shared among guests.

Yes. Hot running water is available at the faucets in the shared bathroom facility.

Guests can enjoy some of the produce growing around the farm, including vegetables, fruit and herbs from the garden. Breakfast baskets are also available for an additional cost and can be provided each morning.

Each tent has a BBQ, fire pit, cooking grate and cookware. Cooking supplies such as pots, pans, bowls, utensils, plates, glasses, knives, cutting boards and measuring tools are also provided. There is also an outdoor kitchenette with hot running water and additional counter space.

No. The glamping tents are not heated. Warm linens are provided, and the canvas tents retain some warmth, but guests should remember that they are still sleeping outdoors and should dress appropriately.

Yes. Every glamping site includes a fire pit. Firewood can be purchased on-site. Guests are expected to completely extinguish their fires before going to sleep.

Yes. Homegrown Hideaway is family-friendly and welcomes children and families.

Guests are encouraged to enjoy the tent during poor weather with activities such as reading or playing board games.

No. Because the property is shared by multiple guests and due to concerns about allergies and local wildlife, pets cannot currently be accommodated.

Visitors may be allowed with prior approval. Guests should contact Homegrown Hideaway before their stay to discuss any plans for visitors.

No. Homegrown Hideaway operates as a resort rather than a campground. Local bylaws do not permit guests to pitch or sleep in their own tents on the property.

Cell reception can be inconsistent because the property is heavily wooded. Wi-Fi is not currently provided, as the experience is intended to encourage guests to unplug. Guests needing internet access can visit cafés and other businesses in Norfolk County.

Downtown Simcoe is about an 8-minute drive away, while Downtown Port Dover is approximately 6 minutes away. Brantford is roughly 40 minutes away. The property also connects to the Lynn Valley Trail, which guests can use to travel toward Port Dover.

There is no camp store. Basic toiletries such as soap, shampoo, conditioner and toothbrushes are available if needed. Groceries and other supplies can be purchased nearby in Simcoe or Port Dover.

Because the property is wooded and has water nearby, mosquitoes, black flies, deer flies and ticks are present throughout the season. Bug activity generally improves later in the season. A strong outdoor insect repellent is recommended.

Yes. Large groups are welcome, and event facilities are available for rent. The property includes a stage and sound booth as well as a rustic barn with electricity, lighting and seasonal washroom facilities. The barn can accommodate up to 95 guests. Events can include weddings, festivals, corporate retreats, reunions, group getaways, yoga retreats, picnics and other private gatherings.

Bookings are completed online through a secure payment system using Visa or Mastercard. Additional items, such as baskets added after booking, can be paid for using cash at the farm or by e-transfer.
