The Simple Joy of Sleeping Outside: Why Glamping Might Be What Your Heart Needs

Need a reset? Discover the quiet magic of glamping in Southern Ontario—where comfort, nature, and real connection come together under the stars.

Even we need to escape sometimes.

It might sound strange, but even though we live here—surrounded by trees, waking up to birds singing outside every day—our family still carves out time each season to stay in one of the glamping tents. It started as a “let’s just try it” kind of thing. Now, the kids look forward to it like it’s a full-blown holiday. Honestly, so do I.

There’s something that shifts when you sleep outdoors. The edges soften. Time stretches out. I sleep better in those tents than I ever have in a hotel bed, no question. There’s no hallway noise, no glowing TV, no busy streets outside the window. Just a comfortable bed under canvas, the night sounds of frogs and crickets, and the occasional hoot of an owl.

Even for us—living right here—it feels like a mini vacation. That tells you something.

What it feels like to arrive

The driveway winds past the old barn, gravel crunching under your tires. Already, the usual noise of the world has faded. You might roll the windows down without thinking, just to hear it better—that stillness that’s never really silent.

Birds overhead. Frogs near the pond. Leaves dancing in the breeze.
You’re only minutes from town, but it already feels like somewhere else entirely.

Your tent is waiting. Soft white bedding. Fresh air. A kitchen kit with all the basics so you can cook what you like, when you like on an open fire or BBQ. You don’t need to unpack your life or pitch a tent. It’s all here, ready for you.

The forest surrounds everything. It’s a gentle kind of quiet. The kind you didn’t realize you were missing.

Nothing fancy. Everything meaningful.

Here’s the truth: you don’t need a fancy vacation to feel something shift inside you. You don’t need five-star luxury, or room service, or a travel itinerary. Sometimes, it’s the simplest things that bring you back to yourself.

  • A morning cup of coffee with birds happily chirping in the tree next to you.

  • A slow dinner by the fire.

  • No screens. No emails. Just real moments, strung together like pearls.

Campfire glowing under stars at Homegrown Hideaway

We’ve seen it in the couples who come here to reconnect.
In the moms who finally exhale after a long season of giving.
In the friends who sit around the fire talking deeper and laughing harder than they have in years.

And we’ve felt it ourselves, every single time we stay.

Maybe what you need is closer than you think.

You don’t have to go far to give yourself a break.
You don’t have to wait until things calm down.
You don’t have to earn rest.

You deserve to slow down, take a deep breath, and remember how it feels to just be.

So if you’re tired, if your heart feels scattered, or if you’re just craving a little peace—you don’t need a plan. Just a night under canvas, tucked into the trees.

We’ll take care of the rest.
