Sustainable Families – Sustainability in Motherhood & Fire Building
August 23, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
$10.00 – $35.00Sustainability in Motherhood & Fire Building
A workshop for mom & her support network, and a fire-building experience for the kids. Bring the whole family to spend a couple of soul-filled hours on the beautiful Homegrown Hideaway property.
Kids can learn fire-building skills from trained professionals, while mom and other adult members of the family are held, nurtured and supported under the guidance of birth-worker and postpartum care provider, Odessa Walker, as she leads an insightful and practical workshop about motherhood and it’s central role in not only the family, but our communities.
Sustainability in Motherhood
While this workshop is most ideal for expectant mothers and mothers of young children, ALL mothers and their adult support system (spouses, parents, friends, adult children, extended family) are welcome and will deeply benefit from this intimate workshop with Odessa Walker.
Alongside like-minded mothers and their families, you will explore the benefits and practical steps involved in centering and nurturing the mother in our family units and communities – so that mom is nourished (and not burnt out), and the whole network around her benefits as a result.
Odessa’s passion for families, pregnancy and postpartum has grown as she has birthed and raised her own four (wild!) children. Her career in birth-work, postpartum care provision and second attending with Norfolk Roots Midwives was driven by her passion in supporting healthy and sustainable family dynamics.
She has a lot to share on the topic of motherhood, and is excited to meet the families willing to learn and grow together.
Fire Building
A talented team from the Growing Roots Forest School will make it possible for parents to attend this workshop by providing an engaging and safe fire-building experience for their children (aged 3 and up). Purchase a Fire Building pass for $10 per child as an add-on to your workshop ticket!
For Children Under 3
If you wish to attend and have young ones in tow under 3 years old, please feel free to bring them with you! We will have caretakers on site to watch the babies and toddlers while the older kids enjoy the fire building workshop.
~~ Sustainable Families Workshop Series ~~
‘Sustainable Families’ is a series of workshops designed to teach practical skills in self-sustainability. All events are also designed to intentionally bring your own family together, to learn and explore together, while building community with other like-minded families on a similar path.
We are SO excited to watch as new connections are sparked, and relationships formed throughout these workshops and events.
Most workshops will take place at Homegrown Hideaway, a glamping retreat and event venue, nestled between the Lynn River and Lynn Valley Trail near Port Dover, Ontario. Embracing the gifts of nature, owners Caroline and Jon have cultivated a sense of wonder and a feeling of calm on their property that is so special and rare.
But keep an eye out for “Community Spotlight” events taking place in other locations around Norfolk County, too!
