June Songwriters Round

June 18 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

$15
The Homegrown Hideaway Songwriters Round aims to spotlight artists from Norfolk County and surrounding communities, creating an environment that encourages intimate, heartfelt storytelling.
Each round five songwriters will take turns performing an original song and providing insight into their writing process. Time should allow for four to five rounds, with a brief intermission in between. Curated by Nolan Gibson, the goal was to gather a unique mix of artists and perspectives all under one roof.
Without further ado, meet your songwriters:

Emma Whale:

No matter the genre, Emma Whale knows how to make a song stand out. With her sweet-as-candy vocals up front, she’ll tell you sad stories with a tinge of hope. While her lyrics reflect her life, she’ll morph her sound to match her mood, resulting in a unique experience for every release.
Emma became a multi-instrumentalist at a young age, starting with singing, then picking up piano and guitar not long afterwards. After high school, she earned her Bachelor of Musical Arts degree from Western University, and her Music Industry Arts diploma from Fanshawe College. Emma currently works as an engineer and producer at Catherine North Studios in Hamilton.

Mary Simon:

The first thing you’ll notice about Mary Simon is her powerful voice. Compared to Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks and Sheryl Crow, not only does she sing and play guitar she is known for her memorable & catchy songs. With lots of touring under her belt, she’s played lots of different venues from bars to busking to cruise ships. Simon wants to engage her audience and inspire them with music. “One of my biggest joys is when people are singing along,” she says. “Music has the power to unify and heal”. Beside playing solo she also has an killer all original band called Mississippi Bends which brings out her North-American flavour.
You can visit her band website at www.mississippibends.com or find her on insta @marysimonsings

Mark Wright:

Local songwriter Mark Wright has written and co-written songs for his own projects Old Barn Doors, Lowerground, Whiskey for Robots and has a repertoire of solo songs as well. Mark has co-written songs with other local artists for their own projects and owns a recording studio local to Norfolk County. Known for his uniquely Canadiana/Norfolkian sound, his music is humble and reflective of the place he calls home.

Nolan Gibson:

With a foundation in roots music, and a need to be of one’s own time, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nolan Gibson creates music that is grounded, yet embraces growth and curiosity. Having been put on stage with bands since as young as 14, Nolan learned to improvise to get by. Informed by these experiences, not a single performance is the same as the last, and no song is safe from creative reinterpretation.

Ryan Morrison:

I grew up on a highway near a small town in the Country.
I picked up the piano when I was just a little kid. I picked up the guitar once I started high school and realized the guitar is way cooler then the piano, (at least that’s what I thought then).
I wrote my first song when I was about 13 years old, it wasn’t very good. Since then, I’ve written a hundred songs, and not all of them are stinkers.
I’m blessed to play in several local bands (Ryan and Friends, Diesel Dog, Old Barn Doors) alongside my best friends and family.
Looking forward to many more years of writing and performing!
The Songwriters Rounds take place Tuesday June 18th, Tuesday July 16th, and Wednesday August 14th, with doors opening at 6:00 pm.
Every concert will be from 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm with an intermission.

The bar will be stocked with wine, beer and ciders from a variety of local businesses. Keep coming back to sample some of Norfolk’s finest!
NOTE: bar will be closed during the performance. We know you will appreciate the opportunity to give the artists your complete attention. See you soon!
